A Word from the Lowest Slowest Tortoise

by noworries on April 23, 2009

I was certainly happy to read that it took Lynda a year to get her website rolling.  I feel that I am low man on the totem pole when it comes to this group that already have websites up and running and drawing traffic. That a huge milestone guys.   Congrats!

As for me I had just learned to build a few web pages on the Sitesell block-by-block and was breathing a huge sigh of relief when along came Rick and the Tampa Bay Group and his 3 column CSS template!

I thought why should I struggle along with the block-by-block when I could have a more professional looking site and have the ease of building web pages off line with an html editor. What the heck I thought, I can learn this!

I’m not sorry I made this transition and I certainly couldn’t have done it without Rick who as I write this is probably having second thoughts about me.   I’m such an annoying novice let’s face it!

I have to say though in my defense Rick threw me a few curve balls when he completely changed the navigation of my website from the way I originally had it planned. In fact, he had a whole new way of approaching the whole kit and kaboodle.  I was  completely thrown off balance and had to regroup.

Well I’ve regrouped and I’ve decided that I’m going to do things 85% of Rick’s way.   After all I might know something about decorating walls (who doesn’t) but Rick knows a helluva lot more about building websites.

Now building websites is no easy task.   I don’t care what anyone says. It takes time (lots and lots of time) motivation and tons and tons of persistance.   Hey you’ve gotta be relentless!

So what are you passionate about?   It had better be your business if you’re going to be successful.

As for Rick’s coaching idea.   I’m all for it and I’m happy to pay for it. No doubt about it I need a little handholding.
Rick has found that out the hard way!

However, I do feel coaching with the exception of the Sunday get togethers, are better off done on an individual basis. After all most of us are in different stages building our websites and we are interested in and learning the best way to accomplish these stages and goals.  For example, who cares how you’re going to monetize your site if you don’t have any traffic.

I wonder what other folks think about that?   I’m sure Sitesell have also come to this conclusion since now they offer private coaching to those who feel they need it.   AND they always never forget to mention in their emails and newsletters “if you’re not ready then ignore until you are ready.”  That makes perfect sense to me.

Well enough said.

Joan sorry for throwing you in the deep end of the pool. Turns out you’re a better swimmer than either of us thought.

And as far as changing your nav that’s what you should be doing. It’s your site and it should reflect you and your ideas, strengths, and passions. I know you will succeed!

Keep plugging.

Rick

Joan, so great to get your perspective on things. I can’t wait to see your new 3-column site!

Is it up an running yet? If so, post the link so we can check it out!
