Yesterday, at our Tampa Bay SBI users group meeting, we had a discussion about how to coordinate the use of keywords in our writing. It is soooo much easier not to have to worry about search engine optimization keywords when you are writing, and of course you always want your writing to read well and not sound forced in order to get good keyword phrases into your content.
But the bottom line is that the search engines need to find you in order to bring you traffic, so you simply must take the extra time to research keywords and interject them into your content!!
What are keywords? Simply put, they are the words and phrases people type into the search engines in order to find content that is related to that search. A key word can be either a word or a phrase, but the odd thing about it and why, as writers and content publishers we must pay attention to the subtle differences in keywords, is that doing so can help your traffic skyrocket if you are consistently optimizing your site with search engine optimization keywords. The subtle differences in keywords like adding an “s” or not or flipping the word order can make a huge difference to your site in terms of traffic. Of course, the goal is to use the most searched keywords in your content when you write so that visitors can find your site and your articles via the search engines….
A good keywords tool (note: keywords tool (plural) is a keyword which had much better results than keyword tool (singular) ….. so it made sense to use it that way in this post) like SBI’s Brainstormer/Master Keyword List combination is a MUST in helping you find these subtle differences and using the keyword phrases that get the traffic and the sales click!
I researched keywords related to the term “wordpress” and edited Rick’s “Why WordPress” post to iinclude these juicy keywords.:
what is wordpress Demand 690, Supply 33, Profitability 20909
wordpress layouts Demand 891. Supply 69, Profitability 12913
I created two videos, each 4-5 minutes long, using Jing and Screencast to show you how I work the more systematic analytical keyword research process into the more free-form creative writing process. Once you follow the process it will become second nature and not take so long, but you have to start doing it, right?! right!
The size of these videos are gargantuan- I don’t know how to make them appear smaller, so if anyone has trouble viewing them, leave a comment and I will make a link to the videos and not try to embed them here. If I don’t hear about it, I’ll assume all is well.
NOTE- all of the keywords I researched and inserted into this post have been italicized to help you find them……
Thanks!
Lori
