I had an email today about a technique that could increase traffic sales. I wanted to run it by some of my fellow gurus to get their opinions as well.
We learned when we were building our website that we should name our photos with keywords. I worked hard on my site to be sure that I did use a good keyword on each photo. I get a good portion of my traffic from “image searches.”
Today, I read an article about the fact that when someone comes to the site via an image search they get a different view of the page with the photo at the top instead of just the regular page. The article states that if you add a small bit of code between the “head” tags that you will get more visitors to stay on the page and thus more sales.
I am somewhat afraid to go adding code to my website without getting some other opinions. I will attach a link to the article so that some of you can read it and see what you think.
You can see it here:

If you get a chance to check it out, please let me know your thoughts.

Hi Lynda-
This sounds impressive, but I am not clear from the article about a number of things.
The most important missing element is what does the page look like AFTER this code is added. I wish they would have included that. The fact that they didn’t add that seems a bit suspect to me.
I think you are smart to question thiis without a little more information. I am wondering who sent this to you. I tried to look up Edge Training and The Edge and found nothing that matched this. Which guru is behind The Edge? Are they trustworthy in other advice they have given?
I’m all for increasing ROI, so it bears looking into. Maybe you can ask on their forum for more backup info.
The advice about alt and title tags for images is solid. I pretty much follow this same advice and my images bring in a good portion of my traffic.
The code idea is worth checking out further. If you can get an example of what happens to the page when it is found in an image search, that would probably be all I would need to make a decision about it.
Well that’s an idea I hadn’t ever heard before. That’s a fair amount of work for every page, so yes, I’d want to dig into it a bit more and make sure it has some real advantages. I guess we need a guinea pig.
