We had another awesome meeting this week. People really seemed to get into Monetization. Why Not? That’s why we’re all here.
We first focused on the “big picture” of monetization and all the ways you can make money with your website. But mostly we focused on Affiliate Marketing as a way to monetize.
We visited Commission Junction and took a look at how to find good affiliate programs for various niches. It’s surprising but it seems many folks don’t know much about Affiliate Marketing. For many webmasters it’s their main way to make money. What could be better than selling other people’s products without having to worry about customers or shipping or inventory. Anyway we’ll be talking in more detail as we go forward.
Another innovation this week was using Acrobat Connect for presenting the meeting online. Amy Benedict (www.passion-of-bavaria.com) and Wendy (www.friendship-by-mail.com) were the guinea pigs and said it went quite well. For the next meeting we’ll be able to have up to 15 people attend this way.

“The Adobe ConnectNow worked great, while I was on. It was clear and the Audio was good. Unfortunately, my cable connection went out at 1:00 for about 10 minutes. When it came back up, I couldn’t log back in, so I watched on the TBCS site. I tried every which way to log back on, but couldn’t figure it out. – kept getting weird error messages. But, overall, the quality of the Adobe is much better.
The topic of the affiliate marketing was really interesting. I’m not ready for it now, but I see great potential when I get to that point.

“I like the ADOBE lots.. much clearer screen so I could actually see what you are doing. When you physically moved to the side, where the text of our conversation was, I lost some of your talk… thats when it went in and out. The minute you stepped an inch/foot closer, WHAM, in comes the voice loud and clear…. Really couldn’t hear anyone else there… usually they were too far or several voices at once… that’s ok.”
Turns out there were some problems with the link not working for the regular broadcast. But we do have a recording of the meeting in case anyone wants to view it. Here it is…

I thought the meeting was awesome. I really learned a lot about how to find good affiliates and what to look for when evaluating their stats. Great conversations!

I would love to delve even deeper into affiliate “how to” and also would love some in-depth looks at some of the other ways to monetize.
Another big topic of interest for me is about how to set up a great email marketing campaign and how to utilize visitor email addresses for newsletters, etc. I am just getting started, trying out Constant Contact. I know A Weber is a favorite company to use for this too. Anybody else interested in this?
